Simple is Elegant When it Comes to Your Resume

K.I.S.S (Keep It Simple, Stupid)

More often than not, simple is elegant. For instance, unless you’re applying for a job as a programmer, you don’t really need to include all the computer programs, systems, and applications you are familiar with. You just need to say that you are indeed computer savvy and familiar with many modern programs, systems, and applications. Do you see what I’m getting at?

In terms of format, the same holds true. I have found that people tend to have much more success when they opt for an uncomplicated formatting style. Some people still want to get all jazzed up with pictures and funky font, but that’s just fluff. It’s noise. It is irrelevant to the purpose of your resume, which is to sell yourself through highlighting your skills and accomplishments.

I always advise against putting your picture on your resume as well. In my experience, it does more harm then good (unless you’re a model!), so let the hiring manager use their imagination until they call you in for an interview. Plus, your looks should have nothing to do with your professionalism or the credentials qualifying your for the position.
