In my humble opinion, working with a freelance resume writer is the way to go. Amongst other things, you will receive a much more personalized service along with hand-written, customized documents. This is obviously preferable to a “Resume Mill” website where they will just plug and chug your information into resume template software applications and offer no customization or personalization of any kind, which is ridiculous. What is a resume if not PERSONALIZED!
On the other side of the coin, there are the larger online “agencies”. Too often people get swept up in the fancy websites and empty promises when, in truth, these larger organizations charge an arm and a leg for fairly basic resume writing services. They spend a lot of money and resources on advertising, driving business to their website and ensnaring hapless victims who don’t know any better. The more money they throw at ads, the more visible they become online and the more of an internet “footprint” they create. But then they have to jack up their prices to pay for all those promotions (to as much as $1000 for a resume package!). And how does that help you, the job seeker? Answer: it doesn’t.
These agencies also outsource the actual writing of the resumes to freelance writers, paying them a modest sum and hardly enforcing any kind of quality control standards. I know this because I was a contracted resume writer for some of these bigger companies before I decided to branch out on my own a few years back. I just got sick of watching as the corporate machine reaped all the benefits of my work while ripping off the average person. That never sat well with me.
So, to sum it all up, if you choose to work with a freelance resume writer (such as myself) you will receive superior services at a fraction of the cost. I keep my advertising and overhead very minimal while building most of my business through satisfied client referrals. Then I pass the savings on to you!
